John Meier is a master at the art of fantastic color gemstones and unique designs. Being one of your (and our) favorite designers, John shares some of his favorite things in our special Q&A.

Q: How did you get started designing jewelry?
A: I started making things very early in life. It was always in my blood.
Q: What was the first piece you ever designed?
A: I made “found objects jewelry” which put me through college. My first piece sold was a bracelet with many strands of red African glass beads with an antique diamond clasp.
Q: What was your first job?
A: Working for a Vet in high school.
Q: If you weren’t designing jewelry, what would you be doing?
A: Drawing and painting.
Q: Tell us about the single piece of jewelry you’re most proud of
A: I love everything!
Q: What jewelry are you wearing right now?
A: My 24k gold wedding band we bought in Burma.
Q: Name five items currently on your desk
A: Cup of coffee, colored pencils, drawing paper, tray of moonstones, Diptyque candle.
Q: What’s your scent?
A: Rarely wear one, but I melt when a woman wears Shalimar. Go figure.
Q: What book are you currently reading?
A: Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens
Q: And a book you’ve been meaning to get to?
A: A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara

A: Clean & spare.
